Section outline

  • Today you will begin preparing for the National Latin Exam in March. The National Latin Exam (NLE) is an exam like the SAT that will test your abilities in Latin. It is not linked to any one curriculum, so there are certain grammar and vocabulary items on the test that you will not have seen at this point in your textbook. You will attempt to overcome this deficit by completing the NLE research project and correcting a few practice tests. If you put in the effort over the next few weeks, you should expect a decent score on the test, and maybe even an award.

Each week will be divided into three days devoted to the grammar project and two days devoted to the practice tests. Begin by making your own copy of the "NLE - Latin 1 (Introduction) - Project" document.

    • Download this National Latin Exam practice test packet with test corrections. There are 5 practice tests (2024-2020), 5 test correction sheets, and an answer key as part of this document.

    • Session Five

    • Finish your test corrections. Complete Part III of the test correction sheet. For this part, you will translate and reverse-translate the passage from the NLE. If you have time and motivation, you can also try taking one of the bonus tests (either 2021 or 2020). The best performers on the National Latin Exam usually take the extra tests.
